Ferritic Stainless Sheet and Coil
430 stainless sheet and coil for formed, decorative and general industrial components
430 stainless steel, UNS S43000 and EN 1.4016, is a ferritic chromium stainless grade commonly supplied as sheet, coil and strip. SAKYMETAL reviews thickness, width, finish, flatness, edge condition, forming route and corrosion environment before quotation.
Ferritic stainless grade
430 is a chromium stainless steel with a ferritic structure and is magnetic.
Sheet, coil and strip
Thickness, width, finish, edge and flatness are controlled by the agreed flat-product specification.
Application-specific finish
2B, BA, brushed and other finishes are reviewed against appearance, forming and cleaning requirements.
Supply Specification
The quotation and purchase order should define the fields below. Availability and acceptance criteria are confirmed against the governing product specification.
| Grade | 430 / UNS S43000 / EN 1.4016 |
|---|---|
| Product forms | Sheet, coil and strip |
| Standard | ASTM A240/A240M or EN 10088-2 when specified |
| Thickness and width | Mill range and tolerance confirmed at quotation |
| Finish | 2B, BA, brushed or other agreed mill/processed finish |
| Edge | Mill edge or slit edge |
| Processing | Slitting, cut-to-length and protective film by agreement |
| Documentation | Heat traceability and material certificate to agreed scope |
Standards and Selection Notes
430 is magnetic
Its ferritic structure makes 430 strongly magnetic. Magnetism is a screening characteristic, not a substitute for grade verification or PMI.
Corrosion resistance is environment-dependent
430 can suit many indoor, mildly corrosive and decorative applications, but it is generally less resistant to chloride pitting than molybdenum-bearing austenitic grades.
Forming route must be considered
Bend radius, draw depth, rolling direction, surface protection and weld design should be reviewed for the intended component geometry.
Typical Applications
- Appliance and equipment panels
- Architectural and decorative trim
- Kitchen, food-service and indoor components
- Automotive trim and formed parts
- General industrial sheet-metal fabrications

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 430 stainless steel magnetic?
Yes. 430 is ferritic and normally responds strongly to a magnet. Positive material identification or certified traceability should be used when grade confirmation matters.
Is 430 equivalent to 304?
No. They have different alloy designs, structures, corrosion behavior and fabrication characteristics. Substitution requires review of the application and governing specification.
Which finish should I request?
State the visual requirement, roughness or reference sample, forming process, protective-film need and final cleaning method. Finish names alone may not fully define appearance.
