Precipitation-Hardening Stainless Supply

17-4 PH stock supplied to the specified condition, standard and inspection plan

17-4 PH, also known as Type 630, UNS S17400 and EN 1.4542, is a precipitation-hardening stainless steel whose properties depend strongly on solution treatment, aging condition and section size. SAKYMETAL supplies bar and related product forms to an agreed specification and condition.

Condition-specific properties

Condition A and age-hardened conditions such as H900, H1025, H1075 and H1150 are not interchangeable.

Bar and machining stock

Round bar, flat bar and related product forms can be reviewed against the applicable specification.

Verification available

Heat traceability, PMI, hardness and mechanical testing can be specified on the enquiry.

Supply Specification

The quotation and purchase order should define the fields below. Availability and acceptance criteria are confirmed against the governing product specification.

Standards and Selection Notes

Always state the heat-treatment condition

A grade-only order is incomplete because strength, ductility, toughness and corrosion response vary with condition. State Condition A or the required H condition and acceptance properties.

ASTM A564/A564M and AMS 5643

These are common procurement specifications for 17-4 PH bar and related stock. The purchase order should state the current required revision and all supplementary requirements.

Section size affects response

Heat-treatment response and certified properties can depend on section size and sampling location. Do not transfer a published typical value to an unverified product size.

Typical Applications

  • Valve, pump and process-equipment components
  • Shafts, fasteners and high-strength machined parts
  • Aerospace and energy components under approved specifications
  • Food-processing and general industrial equipment
  • Wear- and corrosion-exposed precision parts

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Condition A and H900?

Condition A is solution-treated material. H900 is a precipitation-aged condition with a different strength, hardness, toughness and corrosion balance. The drawing or purchase specification should state the required condition.

Is 17-4 PH magnetic?

Yes. 17-4 PH is strongly ferromagnetic in its common conditions.

Can 17-4 PH be supplied with hardness testing?

Hardness and mechanical testing can be included when specified. State the test method, sampling frequency, acceptance range and certificate requirement.
